Illinois Man Facing Hate Crime Charges After Shooting Neighbor

John Shadbar, a 70yearold man from Lock Township, Illinois, faces several charges like hate crime and attempted murder. John reportedly shot his neighbor Melissa Robertson and racial discrimination is suspected as the motivation for this attack. The Robertson family, especially Melissa’s two Black sons, have been the target of racial abuse in the past.

Details of Incident

The incident took place on May 7 in the backyard of Melissa’s home. John initiated it by causing disturbance using his motorcycle engine. When Melisa used an air horn to respond to John’s annoying action, John reacted by throwing a bottle over the fence and shouting racial slurs and threats at them.

Later on, he shot two bullets at Melissa hitting her in the chest and stomach mistaking them for blanks. Critically injured after this attack she is now under treatment at a hospital.

The police quickly arrested Shadbar after the attack. The charges filed against him are,

Melissa’s family has been enduring harassments inflicted by Shadbar for more than ten years included shooting fireworks targeted towards their property and frequent racial slurs towards her children.
