Highlights from the 2024 IAAF Convention in Central Illinois

With over 2,500 people, the 113th Annual Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Convention in Springfield was an incredible success. The event this year was full of memorable occurrences, involving talent shows, the coronation of the new Miss Illinois County Fair Queen, and heartwarming backstage companionship.

Natalie Evans Crowned as the New Queen

Central Illinois shone brightly at the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant, with Natalie Evans from Morgan County being crowned the 64th Miss Illinois County Fair Queen. This victory marks a first for Morgan County in the history of the pageant. Evans aspires to continue her studies at the University of Illinois. Evans is a pre-veterinarian studies major at Murray State University with a biochemistry minor. She aspires to serve as an intern for the summer for the United States Department of Education and become a big animal veterinarian.  

As the new queen, Evans will play a pivotal role in promoting agriculture and county fairs across Illinois. She aims to be a role model, particularly in the agricultural community, emphasizing her passion for cattle and her deep family and religious values. 

Runner-ups in the pageant included Tessa Sargeant of Hancock County (first runner-up), followed by Audrey Moran of Clinton County, Elaina Kessler of Clay County, and Maci Kingren of Ford County.

Non-Finalists and Special Awards

Other notable participants included Miss Madison County Fair, Laini Bock, known for her light-hearted “dad jokes” that eased the tension backstage, and Ella Sievers of Calhoun County, who won the best non-finalist interview award. Contestants faced various challenges, from wardrobe malfunctions to the physical strain of the event, yet all shared positive experiences from their participation.

Talent Shows and Other Awards

The talent shows were another highlight, with Macy Waters and Avery Wyatt of Calhoun County winning the Senior Division with their jazz dance duet. Other talents showcased included piano solos, vocal performances, and contemporary dance, reflecting the diverse skills of Central Illinois youth. 

In addition to the talent show and pageant winners, special recognition was given to Senator Tom Bennett of Gibson City, who received the Friends of Illinois County Fairs award.
