MoDOT Seeks Feedback on Moniteau County Intersection Upgrades

Estimated read time 3 min read

The public is being actively addressed by the Missouri State Department of Transportation (MoDOT) on the intended upgrades at the crossroads of Route 87 and Moniteau County Route C. The safety record of the intersection over the five years preceding this one is the reasoning behind this investment.

Background: A Troublesome Intersection

The intersection in question has been a site of frequent accidents, including:

  • One crash resulting in two fatalities.
  • One crash causing severe injuries.
  • Twelve additional crashes with minor or no injuries.

Despite previous attempts to enhance safety through additional signage and flashers, these measures have not effectively curbed the rate of accidents.

Proposed Solution: A New Roundabout

The intersection’s roundabout development is at present being investigated by MoDOT. This choice came about in light of data and research that indicate the installation of a roundabout might substantially improve traffic flow and safety while simultaneously lessening the risk of accidents.

Seeking Public Feedback

Understanding the value of community involvement MoDOT has prolonged the comment period by two weeks, from February 1 to February 15, 2024, to let the public to share their views and opinions on the construction project. The department is utilizing various channels to facilitate this process:

In-person Meeting: On Thursday, February 1, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., High Point School will host a public open house. Delegates will have the opportunity to speak with the project team in individual swap questions, and offer feedback at the end of this meeting. There is no formal presentation planned, so attendees can arrive and leave at their convenience during the meeting hours.

Online Feedback: MoDOT has dedicated a webpage to the project at www.modot.org/missouri-route-87-and-route-c-intersection-improvements-moniteau-county, where exhibits from the in-person meeting will be available. Visitors can submit comments via an online form.
